IP Democracy: comScore: Fox Topples Yahoo! in Page Views
Somebody, and I think the company’s name begins with either an “F” or an “N,” has leaked a yet-to-be-released comScore report showing that News Corp.’s Fox Interactive Media now surpasses Yahoo! in terms of Internet page views. According to the upcoming comScore report, Fox Interactive Media’s (FIM) total U.S. page views grew to 39.5 million from 38.7 million during November, while Yahoo’s page views slipped to 38 million from 41.6 million.
Spurring the growth is, of course, News Corp.’s MySpace, which is still a hot social networking site despite some rumblings that MySpace may have peaked as Facebook gains steam. Yahoo! did, however, hold onto its top-ranked spot in terms of unique visitors. After FIM and Yahoo!, the most visited sites or collection of sites belonged to MSN-Microsoft, Time Warner Network, Google, eBay, Facebook, Viacom, Craigslist, and Comcast.
The value of social networking isn’t lost on Yahoo!. In a strange bit of timing, the company announced today the results of a study that the very same research company, comScore, conducted on behalf of the struggling Internet giant. Entitled “Engaging Advocates through Search and Social Media,” the study seeks to classify the marketing value and nature of social networking through psycho-demographic profiling combined with data from comScore’s vast sample of Internet users.
The study seems to focus on what the researchers are calling “brand advocates” — people who influence the buying decisions of others — and concludes that these prized consumers use search and social networking more than any other segment. The study concludes that “brand advocates” are more open to “dialog” with marketers…zzzzzz….
