While Comcast struggles with the aftermath of its P2P uploading delay debacle, Verizon keeps boosting the upload speeds of its FiOS broadband service.
Not only has the telco fully rolled out its earlier 15/15 Mbps FiOS service to sixteen states, but it has added new options that permit uploads of 20 Mbps. In six states (Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island), the boost to 20 Mbps for Verizon's fastest FiOS service represents a quadrupling of the upstream rate. In ten states (California, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Texas, Virginia and Washington) the upload speeds are now tripled.
Verizon is really trying to make hay with its speed advantage. Yesterday the telco promoted its 100 Gbps transmission trial-run and today the upload speed boost. Again, it's hard to buy into the idea that a capacity crunch is about to kick in.
