Ken Auletta on Google's Challenges in DC

Ken Auletta has a piece in this week's New Yorker that recaps how Google has come to attract attention in DC and how the search giant has stepped up its spending on lobbying.

There's really nothing new here, particularly as it relates to Google's efforts in Washington, although Auletta got some interesting quotes during his interviews. Marc Andreessen, for example, draws a somewhat murky parallel between Google and the late offbeat comedian Andy Kaufman. The article also offers an interesting few paragraphs that describe how CEO Eric Schmidt tends to interrupt Sergey Brin and Larry Page in public.

Auletta also offers up this interesting tidbit: Neither Brin nor Page have assistants, and as a consequence one or the other will show up at the wrong meeting or not show up at all.
