iPod's Fifth Birthday Series in Washington Post

audioondemand.jpgThe Washington Post’s business section has a series of articles today in a special section ostensibly clustered around the theme of the iPod’s fifth birthday. Mike Musgrove has an essay on the confusion that reigns in the digital music world. Yuki Noguchi relates a cryptic (and confusing) history of her relationship to iPods. Rob Pegararo has a piece on the changes wrought by shifting from physical to digital media.

More interesting is this piece by grad student Neal Mueller who explains how the iPod was too fragile for his trek up Mount Everest, but Creative’s MuVo could withstand the atmospheric changes and general jostling. Another contributor, Scott Sternberg, sings the iPod’s praises.

The most interesting piece is the one by the Post’s Frank Ahrens, who writes about the Russian renegade music sharing site AllofMP3.com and how it bedevils not only record companies but also diplomatic relations. Not to be missed is Ahrens excerpts from a very strange press conference held by AllofMP3.com, which was dubbed “the strangest press conference ever” by USA Today’s Kevin Maney.

Update: The Mercury News’ Troy Wolverton and John Boudreau also have a “Happy Birthday iPod” piece today.
